Reflexology and Reiki explained
Reflexology has it's roots in ancient Egypt, India and China. Introduced to the West by Dr William Fitzgerald in 1913, it was called "zone therapy". He observed that reflex areas on the feet and hands linked to other areas and organs of the body within the same "zone". Further development in the 1930s by Eunice Ingham developed "zone therapy" into what we know now as reflexology. Her research showed that tension or congestion in areas of the foot is correspondingly mirrored in a part of the body.
Working on the hands or feet reflexology is a complementary therapy which promotes the body's own healing potential. The body can be in a state of "imbalance" following illness, injury or stress. Vital energy pathways may become blocked causing the bodies systems to miss function. Using reflexology the bodies natural equilibrium can be restored and healing encouraged. Applying pressure to the feet or hands, a reflexologist can provide a unique application for each individual.
Reflexology's gentle therapy provides the following benefits -
Balance of mind body and spirit
Human touch and Interaction
Relaxation and Stress relief
Improved circulation
Pain relief
Encourages body to heal
Nerve stimulation
Stimulation of immune system
Improved elimination (detoxifying)
Psychological comfort
Improved muscle tone
Manipulation of the foot itself (joints, muscles, ligaments, tendons)
Reiki
Reiki is a natural healing energy. It was developed in the early 20th Century in Japan by Mikao Usui. The translation of the word Reiki is "Universal energy". Reiki aims to treat holistically and is a non-invasive therapy which, as a complementary therapy may be used alongside orthodox treatments.
Reiki supports relaxation and works to de-stress the body during times of illness, or during stressful periods. It promotes inner harmony and balance and enhances wellbeing.
